I Was Building. Or I Was Defending
There was a period in my life when I spent more hours than I can count writing letters, gathering evidence, and preparing arguments.

Not for myself. For a fight.
And somewhere in the middle of all of it, my life was quietly passing by.
Hello Beautiful Souls 💜
I remember so many mornings just like that one.
My boys were home. The sun was coming through the window. And I was sitting at the kitchen table, surrounded by papers, preparing for hearings, organising documents, trying to keep up with everything that needed doing.
I was there. But I was never really there with them.
And that is time I will never get back.
The Energy the Fight Was Taking
After leaving, I found myself in battles I had not chosen but couldn't seem to walk away from. Battles over money, over fairness, over being believed. And every single one of them was real. The injustice was real. The need to fight was real.
But here's what I didn't understand then.
Fighting takes everything out of you. The letters, the phone calls, the proving, the preparing. I reached a point where I was so exhausted, physically, emotionally, mentally, that I could barely think straight. And while all of that was happening, my life was waiting. Four boys who needed my attention, my presence, my energy. And I had so little left to give them.
There is a difference between a fight that moves your life forward and a fight that keeps you standing in the same place.
Not every fight is worth the energy it costs. And only you can decide which ones are.
What Happened When I Started Letting Go
I didn't stop fighting all at once. It happened gradually, as I started putting energy into things that made me feel alive.
Finding creativity again. The morning practice. Small moments of gratitude. Things that felt like building rather than defending.
And something interesting happened. The quieter I got on the outside, things started to shift. Not always. Not perfectly. But enough times that I started to notice something. That when I let go of a battle, something else seemed to find its way through.

I believe the Universe responds to where we put our energy. Where your focus goes, your energy follows. And for a long time, both of mine were in the wrong place. When I stopped fighting everything and started building something, things began to move.
If you have followed the July blogs, you will recognise the thread. From why our bodies still react to old triggers, to the critical voice that tells you who you are, to the morning practice that sets the tone, it all comes back to the same question: where is my attention going? Because that is where my life is going too.
You cannot rebuild in the direction you are not looking.
One Question Worth Sitting With

I am not going to tell you to walk away from every fight. Some fights matter and some things are worth standing up for.
But this question helped me more than any other:
Is this moving my life forward, or is it keeping me standing in the same place?
Not every day. Just when the energy starts going somewhere and you are not sure why it's costing so much.
Sometimes the answer will be clear. Sometimes it won't. But the asking creates a moment of choice that wasn't there before.
And in that choice, rebuilding your life after abuse becomes something you are actively doing, not just waiting for.
Where your energy goes, your life follows.
You Have Already Started Rebuilding Your Life After Abuse
The fact that you are here, reading this, thinking about where your energy is going, that is not a small thing.
It is, quietly, the beginning of everything.
If you would like a clearer sense of where you are on your healing path right now, the quiz is a gentle place to start. It's free, it takes just a few minutes.
With love and gratitude,
